You won't find a more generous, kind-natured fellow here or probably anywhere else. Obviously he had a truckload when he went to the P.O. I just listened to Whiskey In The Jar for old times' sake. Did he plan on all of us getting it on Farewell Jerry Day? We'll just have to ask him ourselves, I suppose.

He has always been on the top of my list--after Dancin, way back in the fall of 06, he was the second person to respond to my very first post, and along with Arbuthnot and McGlone, the first to send me music (Hunter, what else? Okay, JGB too...).

Thanks as well, Ashes...

I always thought "AshesRising" sounded like some kind of naked-synchronized-swimming maneuver!;)

Hey Mr Tell - One of your posts prompted me to go back and read some fo your early history here. Gotta say, you were good for this place from day 1.

Anyhew....east bay deadheads playing hoops??? No way! Hah, sounds a bit like my life....

Where did you play? What city/park? Play w/ any guys that became big names?

I'll have you know that we beat the cream of the crop, the Alameda Coast Guard team of 1976...well, that's how I recall it.

We played in various city leagues, and even played against guys that tried out (and failed) for the Warriors back in the day...

But, I am a far cry from that today...I still think of the Big O as THE greatest player of the game...a triple double for a season...

Hi Tell - Thanks. I played east bay hoops too. Probably the greatest experience of my life was traveling to parks in other cities on weekends and playing all day. You'd start as the news guys(hard looks, physical play) and by the end of the day, everybody was friends(usually). I met and played against all kinds of people.....it was Hayward, Oakland, Castro Valley.....all kinds.

We were farther east--Concord, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Pittsburgh, but would travel to the west (Oakland) for the 'big times.'

Have fun this weekend...

Mine are sitting at the post office, I'll get them tomorrow. Family goes out of town on Saturday so I'll be cranking it up.

I just wanted to echo the comments of everyone about AshesRising. On my first post he thanked me for coming up with a cool way to go from lurker mode to posting. I hope he found his way out the door of that hotel he referred to in his Un-dead post earlier.
